Legacy Giving

Make your legacy loud, legendary, and fabulous.

Including DANCE 89.5 in your will, trust, or estate plan is a pretty iconic move, just sayin’.

It’s a lasting way to support the music you love and the next generation of creators getting real-world, career-ready experience through our programs.

And here’s the smart part: you don’t have to give anything up now.  You get to enjoy your assets in your lifetime, then later pass along the portion you choose to DANCE 89.5.  A little planning now = a whole lot of future impact.

Legacy giving: eternal afterparty energy OR your final set - still playing OR your extended remix

A bequest is one of those rare win-wins: it supports the music and education you love, and comes with some serious tax perks.  Gifts to DANCE 89.5 are exempt from federal estate taxes, which can help reduce (or even wipe out) estate tax liability, potentially leaving more for your heirs.  Not bad, right?

Most people keep it simple by:

  • Leaving a percentage of their estate
  • Naming a specific dollar amount
  • Or gifting the residue (what’s left after everything else is taken care of)

However you do it, your legacy keeps the beat going long after you’ve left the dance floor.

How to build a legacy

DANCE 89.5 recommends you talk to your estate planning professional.

Here is an example of wording you might want to include in your bequest:

“I hereby, give, devise and bequeath [the residue and remainder of my estate or a specific dollar amount or percentage] to c89.5/ KNHC Public Radio Association, a non-profit organization located at 10750 30th Ave NE, Seattle, WA 98125, and whose IRS Tax ID number is 20-5402402. I wish to allocate my gift to support DANCE 89.5’s music and educational programs.”

The same tax ID number and wording applies to beneficiary designations of IRA’s, life insurance policies, trusts, or other legal instruments.

Be sure to discuss your plans with an estate planning professional.

Yes!

If you wish to allocate your gift for a specific purpose, please reach out so that we can discuss how carry out your wishes appropriately.  Since none of us has a crystal ball, it’s important to give the Board some flexibility with your gift.  Please consider including the following text:

If, in the judgment of the Board of Directors of c89.5 / KNHC Public Radio Association, it’s not impossible to use my bequest to accomplish the specific purposes of the bequest, c89.5 / KNHC Public Radio Association may use the income and principal of this gift for such purpose or purposes as the Board determines is most closely related to the restricted purpose of my bequest.
